Discover George's Mexican Food

If you’re cruising down Edinger Avenue and craving authentic street-style tacos, George's Mexican Food at 6581 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, United States, is the kind of spot locals quietly recommend when they want something reliable and satisfying. I’ve stopped in more than a few times over the past year, usually after a long beach day, and each visit has had the same easygoing vibe-no fuss, just solid Mexican cooking done right.

The first thing you notice is how straightforward the menu is. You’ll find all the staples: carne asada tacos, carnitas burritos, enchiladas smothered in red or green sauce, and hearty breakfast plates with eggs, chorizo, and beans. It’s the kind of lineup you’d expect from a neighborhood diner-style taqueria, yet the flavors feel thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed. On my last visit, I ordered the carne asada plate. The steak was tender with a smoky char, clearly grilled fresh instead of reheated. The rice and beans tasted homemade, not overly salty, and the portion size was generous enough to share.

From a food quality perspective, consistency matters. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, repeat customers often cite consistency and cleanliness as top factors in deciding where to eat. In my experience, George’s delivers on both. The dining area is simple but tidy, and the open counter setup allows you to see food being prepared. That transparency builds trust. It’s also aligned with guidelines from the California Department of Public Health, which emphasize visible hygiene practices as a confidence booster for diners.

One detail I appreciate is the salsa bar. Fresh pico de gallo, a smoky chipotle blend, and a vibrant green tomatillo salsa give you control over heat and flavor. On one visit, I watched a staff member restock the containers and wipe down the area immediately afterward-small actions, but they signal attention to food safety. Research from the CDC often highlights how cross-contamination and improper holding temperatures are common restaurant risks, so seeing proactive care adds peace of mind.

The breakfast menu deserves its own shout-out. If you’re up early, the breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, potatoes, and cheese is substantial without feeling greasy. I once brought a friend who’s picky about breakfast spots, and even she admitted the balance of textures-crispy potatoes, fluffy eggs, melted cheese-was spot on. It’s these real-life reactions that explain why the place maintains steady positive reviews across local platforms. Customers frequently mention value for money and quick service, two things that matter in a busy area like Huntington Beach.

Location-wise, being on Edinger Avenue makes it convenient whether you’re a resident or just passing through. Parking is straightforward, and the casual setup makes it easy to pop in for a quick lunch or relaxed dinner. Compared to trendier coastal restaurants, George’s feels more grounded. There’s no overcomplicated fusion twist-just traditional Mexican dishes, from tacos and tostadas to combo plates that remind you of family-run eateries.

Nutritionally speaking, Mexican cuisine often gets misunderstood. While dishes like burritos and quesadillas can be calorie-dense, they also provide protein, fiber, and essential nutrients when balanced with beans, grilled meats, and fresh vegetables. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics points out that beans are a strong plant-based protein source, rich in fiber and iron. At George’s, the beans taste like they’ve been slow-cooked rather than poured from a can, which makes a difference both in flavor and texture.

Of course, no place is perfect. During peak lunch hours, you might wait a bit longer for your order. However, in my experience, the food arrives hot and freshly assembled, which explains the short delay. I’d rather wait a few extra minutes for a burrito that’s made to order than get something that’s been sitting under a heat lamp.

Overall, this diner-style Mexican restaurant stands out because it understands its identity. It focuses on classic flavors, fair pricing, and dependable service. Whether you’re craving tacos after the beach or a filling breakfast before work, the menu, location, and steady customer reviews make it a dependable choice in Huntington Beach’s diverse food scene.

  • Cozy, relaxing. Great food, always very affordable pricing. Nice drinks selection if u want a beer with your meal. Ample parking & sitting space. Always friendly staff. This place is a mainstay in the community. It has upgraded over the years ,& renovated but has never lost its charms, and I've been going there for over 40 yrs. My kids have taken over the mantle. Nice quiet spot for a date too.

I highly recommend this place. It’s not too expensive and the quality and taste of the food is great. This place should be famous!!!

  • The food here is delicious and affordable. I usually get the chili rellano and its only $1 more for a two item so why not add a taco. Drive through and dine in options available.

The food is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned — you can tell everything is made with care. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the staff treats you like family. Whether we’re grabbing burritos, tacos, or their incredible carne asada fries, it always hits the spot. • I love hard shell tacos, good ones are hard to find. Other places taste & look like store bought corn shells. My sons Robert & Jake bought me some for momma day.

  • A small hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant that does mostly take out. And the food is good and fairly plentiful. I notice Huntington Beach police officers ordering from there too so you know it must be a good place.
